Profile
The stroke prevention clinic provides rapid access to outpatient preventive treatment following discharge from an acute care site due to recent transient ischemic attack (TIA). Clinics provide neurological assessment, referrals to specialists, specialty clinics or allied health professionals, and provide a follow-up plan for the primary care physician. Neurologists review results of recent diagnostic tests and coordinate further testing (CT scan, ultrasound or echocardiogram) as required, review risk factors for future stroke, prescribe new medications as necessary, and develop a plan for stroke risk reduction. Appointments typically last two to three hours; it is recommended to bring a friend or family member to the appointment.
A physician referral is required in order to access the program. Call the central intake line for an appointment.
